The black screw cap is made of Bakelite. This part cannot be made out of metal due to heat transfer in use. Bakelite is a strong and stable material when handled correctly.

When changing tips and/or heating elements, please be sure that the iron is cooled down/at room temperature to prevent injury/burns and/or cracking of the Bakelite screw cap.

Please do not attempt to tighten or re-tighten the black Bakelite screw cap when the soldering iron is already warm/hot. This part must be at a room temperature state before tightening or unscrewing.

The black Bakelite screw cap does not need to be un-tightened or removed in order to change the tips. Unscrew the small ribbed metal screw cap to change tips. You should only need to unscrew the black Bakelite screw cap when changing the heating element inside the soldering iron itself.

When tightening the black Bakelite screw cap when it is in a cooled state/at room temperature - snug is all you need to secure this part. Do not over-tighten.
